題題：“Convergence or continued divergence: the common law of contract and civil law after 45 years of union.”

The lecture will ask how much impact civil law has had on the English law of contract since the UK joined the Common Market in 1973. It will note topics on which the laws continue to diverge and then consider a number of English doctrines which show some signs of adopting civilian notions. This includes a series of recent cases suggesting that “relational contracts” have an implied obligation of good faith. It will consider whether English law is beginning to draw distinctions between different types of contract; and to what extent the cases are a sign of convergence with civil law.
