Dr. Kuan-Ling Shen is a Distinguished Professor at the National Taiwan University (NTU) College of Law. After completing her legal education at NTU, she went on to earn her Ph.D. from Heidelberg University in Germany in 1999. Her expansive research portfolio includes civil procedure law, non-contentious law, family proceedings law, labor law, compulsory enforcement, bankruptcy, arbitration, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Throughout her career, she has focused on comparative legal studies and has been a driving force behind the reform of the civil judicial system in Taiwan.

Professor Shen’s academic influence extends internationally. She was awarded the Senior Fulbright Research Grant to serve as a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law during the 2013-2014 academic year. Additionally, she served as an exchange professor at Hamburg University in 2018 and returned to her alma mater, Heidelberg University, in 2019.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Professor Shen holds significant leadership roles in the legal community. Since 2025, she has served as the President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Taiwan. Her previous administrative experience includes serving as the Vice Dean of the NTU College of Law and Director of the Graduate Institute of Interdisciplinary Legal Studies (GIILS) from 2017 to 2019. She currently contributes her expertise as a board member of the Research Foundation of Civil Procedure Law, a member of the Judicial Yuan’s Civil Procedure Law Commission, and a member of the International Association of Procedural Law (IAPL).

A prolific author and highly decorated scholar, Professor Shen has published numerous articles in TSSCI journals and seven influential monographs focusing on ADR, the Family Proceedings Act, and amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure. Her dedication to excellence has been recognized with the Dr. Ta-Yu Wu Memorial Award from the National Science Council and various publication awards from NTU. In 2021, she received the NTU Outstanding Social Service Award for her contributions to society.
