 Professor Yu-Wei Hsieh focuses his research in criminal politics and criminal law. In the latter case, especially dangerous conducts as criminal offenses (Gefährdungsdelikte) and administrative criminal law (Nebenstrafrecht). He obtained a scholarship of the Interchange Association of Japan, which is founded by the Japanese Government and came to Kyoto University as a research student in 2007. He received his PhD degree from Kyoto University in March 2011, and became an assistant teacher at the graduate school of law of Kyoto University until February 2012. He was acknowledged an opportunity to make a presentation at the semiannual West Japan Congress of the Criminal Law Society of Japan in July 2011. In fact, he was the first international researcher who originally came from a foreign university to accomplish this. Also, his doctoral thesis (抽象的危険犯論の新展開 (A New Point of View of Abstract Dangerousness Offenses)) has been published in Japan in March 2012. He participates actively in academic conferences and activities on criminal law issues. He is now an official member of Criminal Law Society of Japan(日本刑法学会). Now Professor Hsieh is also focusing on the present state of death penalty in Taiwan.
