The ACWH has been inviting experts and scholars, governmental and private officials, and representatives of international organizations to exchange ideas on the latest issue in an international forum. A prime example is the International Conference on “Policy and Law Aspects of Asia and WTO: Challenges and Opportunities” held in July 2005 by the ACWH. Distinguished invitees include Chinese Taipei's WTO representative, Mr. Chin-chang Yen, the former Malaysian Ambassador to the WTO, Mr. Supperamaniam Manickam, panelist of the former WTO Appellate Body, Professor Mitsuo Matsushita, and several notable scholars from Philippines and Indonesia. It should be noted that, based on the cooperation between the ACWH and the Council for Cultural Affairs, ACWH researchers have built up a network with officials from the EU through seminars held by the Council for Cultural Affairs. The ACWH will continue to arrange international conferences and activities based on previous experience. In view of regional balance considerations, we would seek to invite developing country Members to the WTO to enhance mutual communication. We would also seek to invite least-developed country Members to the seminars in order to assist capacity building. |
